Masterclasses for shoemakers

Masterclass for shoe makers

Do you need to brush up your finishing, strengthen your welting or build a stacked leather heel for the first time?

Take a look at the hand sewn shoe making modules below, tell us about your shoe making experience (what you already know) and what you would like to learn and we will make a course just for you. Our hand sewn shoe making and footwear pattern cutting modules offer an opportunity for you to improve your making and to learn new techniques.

We are passionate about our craft and have each been shoe making for nearly 20 years. (We met whilst apprentices to a master shoe maker for John Lobb). We continue to hone our skills, making hand sewn bespoke shoes through our Bespoke Service at Gieves & Hawkes No.1 Savile Row and James Purdey & Son, Mayfair. We are traditional English shoe makers, working with a highly skilled team of outworkers to make the lasts, footwear patterns and shoe uppers. Then we make the shoes in our workshop using only hand tools - hand lasting, welting, stitching the sole, building the heels and finishing - using the techniques that you could learn with us.

Tuition is one-to-one or in small groups of up to three students and can be for a few days or a few months depending on your needs and availability. After your course is over, we continue to offer plenty of support and advice and our online Tool Shed is a useful resource to buy making kits, tool kits, leather and materials (students receive a lifetime 20% discount).
