The design duo behind carréducker, Deborah Carré and James
Ducker, have both changed careers to make bespoke shoes.
Deborah seized the chance
to change career from PR consultant to make bespoke shoes when
she won a coveted Queen Elizabeth
Trust Scholarship in 1997. She trained as a handsewn
shoemaker with master shoemaker Paul
Wilson before setting up her own business, Atelier
Carré making bespoke shoes and bags to commission. She is
a visiting lecturer in shoe and handbag design & marketing at the London
College of Fashion, University
of the Arts, London.
James Ducker was teaching English in Spain when
the bespoke shoe bug caught him. Based in Spain for eight
years, he attended the Shoemakers
Guild School, Barcelona before returning to London
to continue his bespoke shoemaking training as an apprentice for John Lobb, also with Paul Wilson. James is
a lecturer in handsewn
shoemaking at the University
of the Arts, London.
