On this evening class you will make a beautiful, Italian leather key fob with chunky clam clasp and key ring.

Course description

The course is taught by leather craftsman Frances Pinnock  formerly of Bill Amberg Studio and bag maker, Simpsons. You will start with a set of tools, materials and the pre-cut leather pieces.(Please note that we pre-cut the leather using press knives to give crisp, sharp edges for a great-looking, finished product).

Then through demonstration, trial and guidance you will learn to:

  • Prepare and finish the leather edges
  • Cement the layers of leather together
  • Mark and punch the brogue pattern on the strap
  • Cement the hardware in place at each end
  • Punch the stitch holes and set your work in a clam
  • Use an awl, thread and stitching needles
  • Saddle stitch and to finish your work

There’s no greater feeling than the satisfaction of making something yourself. We hope that this practical course and the comprehensive notes supplied in class will encourage you to continue saddle stitching in the future.

Our courses also make a great gift and can be purchased using our gift cards.

All the materials needed for the course are provided and aprons are available for your use, but please wear trousers so that you can use the stitching clam comfortably.

Please choose your colour of key fob – a natural chocolate brown or orange Tempesti leather strap; and the colour of hardware you would like – either brass or nickel, as you make your booking.
