Heathcote Campaign Boots
Heathcote Campaign Boots are custom Oxford boots, handsewn in our London atelier.
Our inspiration came from Gieves and Hawkes’ military heritage which we had the pleasure of plundering when we started our association with Gieves in 2010. Their archivist who showed us many of the treasures in the collection including the first inflatable life jacket with the blow tube disguised as a cigar. The shapes of collars, tabs, straps and cuffs really caught our attention. So we tried to incorporate some of them into our designs.
We made these custom oxford boots in cavalry twill and soft grain leather with detailing including a vintage military ribbon tug and brass rivets. The twill is traditionally used for riding breeches. However, in stead of using it the “right” way, we reversed it as it had a subtle ridged texture on the back.
UPPER: Chocolate, pebble grain calf and wool cavalry twill (reversed)
LINING: Soft, taupe coloured glace kid
MAKING: We hand stitched the sole with a low 1″ heel and sturdy 5/16″ sole; it has a square waist; and we finished the soles and heels with a natural polish glaze.
