Gilbert Hunting Boot
Gilbert hunting boots in rich, chestnut grain leather from legendary tannery Freudenberg. The Gilbert forms part of a capsule collection of footwear we made when we moved into gun maker James Purdey and Son on South Audley St, Mayfair, London
The brief was to create a boot which combines functionality and style. So we used a supple, full grain calf and incorporated a bellows tongue to stop the water getting in through the laces. And we also hand stitched a storm welt which is ideal for all weather conditions and gives them a reassuringly rugged look. You can see this on the side of the boots near the sole, a true marker of a handsewn boot.
We chose to stitch a leather sole with a square waist to give these bespoke hunting boots a classic style but added a rubber commando sticker sole to protect the foot from the worst of the elements.
We also added eyelets and some ski hooks towards the top of the facings for ease of tying.
If you like these boots, you might like their sister shoes in the Purdey collection.
